Rovers Talent, Carol Quaite

Carol was born in Bundaberg and a long time player and supporter of hockey through juniors into her senior year. She played in the local competition for the Rovers Women’s Hockey Club. She at an early age showed skills and talent beyond her years. She was selected to play in the Bundaberg Senior Women’s Representative team when she was only 14.

In 1974 she was only 13 years of age when selected as a Queensland Secondary School representative player. This was a remarkable achievement for someone so young. The State Championships were held in Sydney and Queensland won the Australian Title in that year of Carol’s representation.

When she was 15 years of age she was selected in the Open Women’s State Team held in Perth in 1976. She continued at State level for the next 2 years. In 1978 she played in the Open Women’s Team held in Sydney and had to share the Australian Title with N.S.W.

In Brisbane, 1979 Carol was part of the team that fought hard and lost in the final to Western Australia. Even though the result was not good she still gained selection for the Australian team.

At the very young age of 16 she was picked for the Australian team. She played for three years in the Australian team and her hockey skills were revered amongst the other Australian players.
 
After competing at such a high level she retired in 1990 and to be a skipper on a trawler with her soon to be husband. She and her husband spent much of their time in the Burrum area living and working around the coast South of Bundaberg.

In 1990 she returned to Bundaberg and took up a position as a Development Officer going into the schools to promote hockey around the district. The numbers of children playing hockey increased and there was an increase in teams to the local competition. She continued to play local hockey and for many years was the captain of the Rovers Women’s hockey team.

Selected Q'ld Secondary schools team in 1974 at the age 13 years Q'ld U/19 Girls team to Australian U/19 champioships in Sydney Q'ld won the Australian Title that year,  

Selected for Q'ld Open Women for Australian Championships in Perth at the age of 15 years in 1976. Q'ld Open team 1977, Q'ld open team 1978 Sydney when Q'ld shared the title with NSW., Q'ld Open team 1979 in Brisnbane where we lost to W.A in final.

Selected for Australia in 1977, 1978 &1979 when she retired form Q'ld and Australian teams. Continued to play in Bundaberg upon her return in 1990. She was Captain of Bundaberg Senior women and Rovers club for several years.
